UNDER THE WEATHER

WOW, I haven't had a cold/flu bug in years, I mean years, and no I am not a big fan of the flu vaccine (for me personnally) though , I have gotten one every year to keep my job. Once my kids got out of primary grades, and my rediculous cleaning of all handles, washing of hands a bazillion times/day and changing toothbrushes the minute a hint of cold germ was near my home...well we managed to stay very healthy. So when Eric came home with a cold last week, I was a little surprised. The following week I had it and I was bummed! and miserable! I have been in bed for 4 days!!!! Of course all my days off work!!
In-between cold decongestion medication and sleep, I have managed a few rows of knitting. The bed is covered in knitting-not knowing what project my fuzzy head will be able to manage.
Not a way I would choose to spend my weekend, the cold part, I am always knitting, but it was quiet  and Eric fed me....ahhh.

YARN ALONG/ 365

Finishing up another pair of socks! Regis 4-fadig by Arne and Carlos is wonderful to knit with, Socks are not the most exciting knit to knit , but the self stripping makes these fun! I hope to make several more in the months to come.
I bought the Ann Budd sock ruler too. I was tired of my socks being too short or too long...ugh. The ruler helps, something so simple and yet so useful.

Getting ready for warmer days with garden and house self sufficiency books.
Have had no time to really do anything but thumb through these book, will let you know after I spend more time diving into all the information they hold.

It's Wednesday

OLD MAN WINTER/ 365

Snow pictures from our last storm and I was computer-less at the time to post them.
Boy howdy, we got some snow! Eric didn't dare go to work in Denver, but he dug out so I could make it to the hospital here in town.
These snows can be big here in Colorado, though they are gone in a few days especially when the chinook winds are blowing and they are blowing. It's warm, 50-60's, ankle weights are needed in the dress attire to stay on the ground. The puppies hate chinook winds, we send them out tethered to a rope tied off in the kitchen so they don't blow off over to Kansas;-].
Have a great Tuesday!

THE SOCK AND A VERY BAD DOG/365

These crazy socks, I frogged back 3 times before I knitted the toe up to my liking. Let me say that picking up 64 stitches on a zero needle is not easy on the eyes, but not impossible either. I got rather proficient at it ;-\  Anyways, the socks are done and they fit like a glove. Last week I started another pair of socks and I am almost to the heel of the second sock. Guess I am in a sock knitting mood.

Wendell spent the weekend with us and got himself in a whole lot of trouble. He was "marking" in my house! Not only that-but he lifted his leg on an entire roll of batting that was out. So he lost all privileges in the house and was sentenced to the playpen when indoors. He looks crushed doesn't he?

365 BONE BROTH

I can't say enough wonderful things about homemade bone broth. Putting this together is easy and letting it slow cook all day is the best house aroma money and time can purchase.
I used turkey wings for this bone broth. I cooked the wings in my toaster oven which worked great, but look at all that wonderful turkey dripping that I couldn't scrap off to put in the pot? It is almost a crime, but no tears, lesson learned. My next pot the bones will be roasted in the same pot that the broth is made in.
Eric is not feeling well, cough due to cold? I am ready, nothing like hot broth when feeling under the weather.

GETTING DONE 70/365

My list is made and it is rather long….
Apparently, I love to start projects, for I have many incomplete project laying around the house. So many that the incomplete projects are beginning to look like how I decorate my house. This little lovely was started probably 5 years ago and has sat because I was shy 6 little red cherries to be sewn on the branches. SIX! When I sat down to sew on the six it look maybe 6 minutes! Oh thee who procrastinates-
why, why so long?
I really like this quilt. Two borders later [can’t see in these pics?] it’s a beauty.
I am planning on machine quilting the center and maybe…..hand quilting big feathers on the borders.
The weekend is the time I get to sew, so-this weekend- this will be sandwich together and gotten ready for the machine. YEAH!

YARN ALONG 69/365

Does life ever feel like it will move to my {SLOW} speed. I always feel like I have to readjust my days, attitude and thoughts to keep up. I’m not sure if life feels like its flying by because - well lets just say I’m getting older to almost an age, I was always too young to reach! What I’m trying to say is, sometimes, a lot of times, I don’t have the energy to keep up like I use to. There I said it!

A baby knitting update. I started another sweater on Saturday and am on the sleeves already. Love knitting baby things, they go so fast, helps me feel like I’m keeping up in the fast lane, [see above ;-}]. Such a feeling of accomplishment.
But- I need to get back to finishing some knits for my older children.

Have been reading “Our Only World” by Wendell Berry
Love, love it!
Here is a great interview with Bill Moyers and Wendell Berry, I highly recommend it, Mr. Berry rarely- if ever gives interviews.

68/365 and ANOTHER SWEATER

Yup, another baby sweater, size 12 mo. This sweater is really blue, a yarn I picked up in Montana.Washable wool with some acrylic, not loving the feel and a little too drapey, but any Mom will love it-throw it in a washer.
Back to work today and a long day it may well be, with MLK holiday yesterday, a lot of catch up to do. Snow too is expected today. So love winter and snow-just not driving in it.
Enjoy your day.

LOTS OF PICTURES

I know, I am to be taking a picture a day, but it has been so dang grey/blue dreary outside. The sun has shown itself but only for a few hours and not when I have my camera….blaaa!
So these pictures will have to fill in for that past 5-6 days.
I have been organizing sewing, knitting and the house in general. So much to clean out…where and how did it all make it into my house. My husband has been on an organizing kick as well these past few weeks-lord knows I need help and he is good at this kind of stuff. I get overwhelmed and walk away leaving a big undone mess…blaaa!
It’s MLK day! Hard to believe all those hard times happened in my life time, seems like a million years ago!
Why are people so slow in accepting people as people.

YARN ALONG

Yarn Along Wednesday!
I finished the Vertebrae sweater and I think it is semi-cute, but nothing I would consider close to over the moon. Th important thing is I am sure my daughter will like it for her wee one that will be arriving in the spring.
No it is not your eyes!
I apologize for the HORRIBLE pictures! I have been working late and leaving early - that I am using my phone camera to take pics-in the dark no less, [only time I’m home] and so early in the morning, I think I am still asleep when shooting. Not sure how to rectify this situation, except to quit work?  Well that can’t happen yet……….
I read Plastic Purge in a day. INTERESTING. Plastic is really not our friend, not all plastic, It would be hard not to have plastic but  a lot is soo easy to replace with other options.
Highly recommend this book!
Happy Wednesday,

57/365 YARN ALONG

Hello Wednesday and Yarn Along.
Reading wise, Louise Penny’s book is only so so to me. A lot of words with little content to hold my attention. I will finish the book only because I am so close to the end, or maybe I will just find who did it and put that book to bed.
Guns at Last Light is great if you like WWII history. I find most anything to do with American history fascinating. The book is loonngg and very detailed, the final installment of the trilogy.

Knitting wise, I found the needles I needed to knit the sleeves on the Vertebra, and the 2nd skein of yarn. So this project will be done very soon. I think my Vertebra will be fitting a child more of the age 3-6 months instead of the infant [newborn] stage.

Not much else going on in my life…work, knitting, reading, home stuff and thats it.
Oh, today is my 37th year Anniversary. I’d say that is worth mentioning. I still think I married the best guy in the world! No celebrating till the weekend.

Please join me over at Ginny’s

365

53/365

54/365

55/365

Hello, this fine Monday morning! My weekend was full with a long walk each day, [these legs are feeling all that movement. Hope I can keep it up all week].
Also plenty of time spent in my sewing room working on my 2 inch square scrap quilt. What a pleasure  to sew on this quilt. Very mindless, yet useful in so many ways-I am using up more scraps!!
I have also been planning some apparel sewing. Have you ever seen the show The Real Cost of Fashion? OMG, it’s time for me to be a lot more MINDFUL on what I buy and how much I buy!
Interesting documentary.
I love January, it’s beautiful, great walking weather and the ice cycles…amazing.
Hoping for a great start to the week for you all, take care and be kind to each other.
