OUT and ABOUT

eagle spotted by river

helicopter flying in to fill up with water to drop on fire

helicopter flying to fire with bucket of water

We went out for a little hike on Saturday and had I realized how smokey it was, we would have stayed home.  But, the kids really wanted to go and so we did. We hiked about 2 miles or more and the kids did great, very few people on the trail which was a welcome situation. On the way back the helicopters were coming in one after another to fill their buckets with water, then fly back up to the fire to drop their load.
This was an extra treat for  us all of to watch, they have about 4-5 helicopters flying all day everyday and over 900 fire fighters working up on the Cameron Peak Fire. To complicate things, the Mullen fire that started in the Medicine Bow Range has crossed into Colorado, ( burned over 120K+ acres). Beginning to wonder if these two fires are going to run into each other, not sure if that is good or bad.

It's always good to just get out in nature a bit....I need to do it more often. For us, we're going to be getting the dregs of the hurricane this weekend. Hurricanes, fires, think I've read this scenario is some dystopian novels lately!!!! And thanks for the book recommendations! I'm on it!!!

so nice you were out and about and I'm sorry that the smoke was bothersome. I cannot imagine!!

Ryan mentioned that the Mullen fire had grown and is now burning in CO. Your temps still look fairly warm, with low RHs and red flag warnings, but none of them are good for fire suppression. We're supposed to get some rain from the hurricanes this weekend and I so wish I could send the precipitation your way. Hope your skies clear soon.

Growing up in Wyoming, I used to ski in Medicine Bow ALL THE TIME. (Never a fire there, though . . . when I was there.) Thinking of you all and hoping the weather turns to quell the fires. Much love.

Ditto Bonny's comment about the rain ... Hurricane Delta is gonna drop rain on us Saturday and Sunday. I'm glad y'all got out though. That yellow aspen(?) is a beautiful fall view I haven't seen in years!
