YARN ALONG MAY

Continue to stay at home, being in the higher risk category, (higher risk due to age). 

Yes, we go to the grocery store, pick up occasional to go meals, and best of all we are seeing the kids on a limited basis. We are waiting to see the COVID stats mid May, if numbers are going down, will re-evaluate going out more, if numbers go up, tighten up our 'stay at home' regiment. I don't have high hopes that numbers will go down with so many people NOT wearing masks, feeling it infringes on their constitutional rights. Selfish, selfish people!

In the mean time, getting in daily walks. Taking pictures of amazing things in nature, I'm not sure I would of noticed before 'stay at home'.

APRIL_YARN ALONG

April already, WOW! 

Soon the garden work will begin and only light weight knitting can be done on back porch, hot sun and wool yarn-no no no, not for me. I have finished 3 sweaters since Jan.1 thus far this year. Two were started in 2019. I would love to be one of those prolific knitters, but I get side tract all the time with new cast ons and fun yarn. I guess I have difficulty staying focused on just one project.

The sweater in this post is Humulus and a fantastic knit. I really made this for my youngest but when I had Caitlin try it on, I realized it would need about 4 more inches to fit Erin properly. So, Caitlin loves it and with her, it will stay. I get to knit Humulus again! I do not mind knitting the same pattern twice or even more if it's a good pattern and Isabel Kraemer's patterns are always good.

I joined the National Rug Hooking Association. I have always been intriqued with rug making and I'm going to try this art form again- now that I have time. Oh, and I have a pile, (several piles) of wool to use up!

this book is a very good, a story of friendship between a white girl and a black woman during the 60's in the deep south-nough said!

The Patch Work Bride

I have read all of Sandra Dallas books, this one not so good. The story was interesting, but the ending a total flop!

A Seat By the Hearth

A mindless read with a feel good ending.

Mending Matters

A great reference book with some wonderful ideas.

 Trying to stay home and cook more for meals. I think I'm a better cook than most meals we get at resturants and I can make meals for much less money. Homemade pizza that Eric and I both enjoyed, with "whatever" salad. It is time for me to start experimenting with salad dressing recipes this spring, I plan to grow all different kinds of lettuce.

I'm still having trouble with creepy people looking at my blog site. Wish I could block them! Any ideas?

INTO SPRING

The garden is coming along, most everything is planted but the squash and cukes. The tomatoes have been in 'wall-o-waters' and they are getting huge! First planting of the beans in, the next planting will be the end of next week! Besides the garden growing, the grand babies are getting huge! Gus is sitting up! It's wonderful, he is so less frustrated with this newly acquired skill and everything, I mean everything is going into his mouth. 

Mothers Day was saved by the end of the day. With a very sick SIL, Me Oh My busting at the seams, Caitlin needing to go into work the afternoon just to keep up with all the customers, (pies flying, literally flying off the shelves), that at 5pm, Caitlin and I decided to save Mothers Day we were going out to eat! Eat we did at a great historic bar/restaurant up North of town. It was delicious!!!

Lots of sewing going on, almost done with machine quilting another 2" piece scrap quilt, and lots of pants/shorts being sewn up for the little ones. Baskets to be sewn are on the list as well, Caitlin has requested them in shop as soon as possible.

It's a busy time this Spring of ours, and it's a beautiful Spring. A good mix of sun and rain. Out West we do not complain about rain, hail we will moan and cry about, but not rain! Soon the rains will be sparse and the heat will settle in around us almost suffocating us all. 

3 APRIL 2018 (YARN ALONG)

WOW, Yarn Along already. When Ginny said YA would be once a month I silently cried;"no, that's not enough!" And yet, the once a month sure comes around FAST. It's not that I am all that busy, though I really do not let much grass grow beneath my feet.

I am really enjoying this book. Very helpful in these very chaotic times our country is presently experiencing. 

Gardening: Peas planted and Garlic is up!!!!! Also daffodils and tulips are coming up. Spring is on the way!

Spring , and getting the garden ready is so exciting for me. The anticipation of growing real food right in my own backyard is nothing short of a small miracle in my world. What I don't understand is why everyone doesn't have a vegetable and flower garden!

Eric is busy getting the brick walk done, and boy howdy, was that a job! It looks beautiful!

Happenings on the back porch: well I put together a water/sand/mud kitchen for BB. The fun she has playing in this very SIMPLE kitchen is amazing. I feel that toys, simple toys, allow children the freedom to use their imagination. For me, to watch a child play using that amazing gift, (imagination), is better than any OSCAR movie. I also get some knitting done, in-between all the test tasting I get to do for BB.

Sewing: finished a cute SIMPLE dress for BB. Found the perfect buttons over at MSK  where I walked into a HUGE yarn sale! Can you believe it, I left with only the buttons. Couldn't find anything  I needed and let's face it, I am slightly overwhelmed with the GINORMOUS stash that I have stored all over the house!

The weekend got away from before posting this post and guess what...we are expecting rain tonight , tomorrow, then snow on Friday. Oh, Colorado- you never let us down. I went into the yard to pick the few peonies that have bloomed to enjoy in house while this cold, freezing snowy front moves through. I rarely pick flowers from the yard, unless of course roses, since they will bloom and bloom.

WHO MOVED MY STATE?

soo. whats happening in your state? here in colorado what is not happening is my garden…..whaaaaa.

i’m on my third planting, the seeds and plants are rotting in the ground. we Coloradans have  abandoned the gardens and are working on an ark! my house smells funny, that midwestern moldy/humid funny….whaaaaa again!

tomorrow we are celebrating my daughter’s 30th birthday. an outside croqueet, botchy ball, bbq kind of party, 25 people here for dinner, and rain, rain, rain is the predicted weather…whaaaa!

i wish i could say i have spent the last weeks sewing and knitting in all this indoor time.

but lately i just look out the window and sing to myself, ( and the puppies), rain, rain go away come back another week, i mean day.
i have been working on a scrap 2” squares quilt. lots of cutting. lots of sewing.
i’m over the moon with the beginning results.
