QUILTS, PETS, SNOW

Another UFO quilt finished this past week. This half square triangle quilt was a bear to machine quilt. I had debated if it needed borders to square up the quilt, decided against it.... much to my dismay while machine quilting this monster. Half square triangles are cut on bias (something that should of been glaringly obvious to me) and anything sewn on bias MOVES, a lot. Lordy, quilting this quilt was like trying to herd cats to stay in a straight line. I could only quilt a couple of rows then remove the quilt , re-stretch and pin, repeat and repeat for two-three days. Finally ready for the binding....first few stitches and the machine broke big time. Took over an hour to release fabric that was jammed between needle and bobbin case. Next day machine went to the Chet, my machine fix it man! Binding was put on using one of my Bernina machines. All done and quilt is beautiful draped over the back of a couch.

We have been cold and getting snow as of late and loving it. Well, maybe not Sadie, our mini doxie. She does not enjoy any kind of cold weather. Presently she is under a quilt on the couch snoring away where she will be the remainder of the day.

It's been a rough week here. My daughter's beloved's dog will be put down Saturday morning, he has CA and nothing is to be done for Wendell.
This is the part about having animals, (dogs), that I hate!!! We have had to put down 3 well loved pets and it is always so painful.  Now, to watch the pain my children are experiencing putting down their beloved animals is almost too much ;-[

oh Eileen, my heart goes out to your daughter and her family. This last year has been full of so much loss, surely we should be free from having to lose our beloved pets. (sadly, no). and WOW! that quilt is yet another amazing finish. just wow!

All that work on the quilt was well worth it because it's stunning!

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter's dog. It's so hard to say goodbye to our pets, but honestly I think putting them down when they're so sick or in that much pain is the greatest kindness we can do for them. It doesn't make it any easier for us, though.

I am so sorry about your daughter’s dog. That is a big loss. That quilt is beautiful and ugh to the broken machine! I debated most of the weekend about how to quilt my most recent finish. This it will be hand quilted with pearle cotton and a big stitch. Just need to baste it now.

My heart breaks for your daughter. I will share my favorite dog quote, and if you feel like it, maybe pass it along to your daughter for me. I hope she finds some comfort in the days ahead. XO

"God turns clouds inside out to make fluffy beds for the dogs in Dog Heaven, and when they are tired from running and barking and eating ham-sandwich biscuits, the dogs find a cloud bed for sleeping. God watches over each one of them. And there are no bad dreams." -- Cynthia Rylant

Such a pretty quilt. It's easy for me to say but it looks like it was worth the trouble. I am sorry about your daughter losing her dog. It is very hard to see our children sad.

I echo KYM's comment. Saying goodbye to our beloved pets is beyond sorrowful. And when our adult children experience this pain it is even more profoundly sad. One never fully 'gets over' the loss, but it is the price we accept to have them in our lives for a short time. I cannot imagine a day without my buddies. I adopted a small terrier mix to keep my pug company after our golden passed. She has turned out to be the most extraordinary gift. She never allows me out of her sight - while working remotely she settles in her bed beside me and watches over me. I am so grateful for this devotion that she offers. Love them every moment because those moments speed along!

So sorry for your daughter and her dog. Losing a pet is never easy. I like the quote that Kym shared. And your quilt is lovely - even if it was a PITA to quilt, it is such a colorful and joyful project!
