YARN ALONG

have been really enjoying my knitting project!
a sweater: harvest moon
a top down knit that has kept my interest,
even after having to frog it because i miss understood the pattern.
got it now though !

loved, loved the "children's blizzard"!
a true story of the blizzard of 1882 that swept through the entire heart land of the country.
man those settlers were something else, what they endured to settle the open plains...

another book i just finished was "nothing to tell".
stories of women homesteaders in montana.

my favorite reads are stories about real people in real life.
and i especially enjoy reading about women and their daily life's.

so if you need a good knit and or books, i highly recommend
" harvest moon" sweater
and both of these books.

FRIDAY HAPPENINGS

oh it is friday, one of my husbands favorite day !
mine too, i get to see him, have him all to myself for 2 days...yiippee. i have finished up some "hand work" that has been nagging me to block.

these are baby receiving blankets that 45 x 45 inches wide, hemmed stitched then a beautiful crochet edge put around the entire blanket. i like to give a blanket and burp rag with each blanket.

seems odd to call these  "burp rags" they are beautiful crochet
baby items. will have to come up with a better name.
perhaps baby burp towel.

anyways, i love doing them, they are fairly mindless once the pattern is imbedded in the ole brain.
i picked up several more of these blankets and burp rags/towels
in rigby last august.
you can read all about the town of rigby here
from camille

i also blocked this shawl.

quince pattern
tosh yarn
easy easy pattern
i have made 2 of these this past summer.

edging is a wonder lacy leaf pattern.
think i will be making another in a plum color.

well it has finally cooled off here in northern colorado.
cool and cloudy today,
i'm in heaven.
will be working on finishing a quilt that has to travel to Pennsylvania with me at the end of the month.
what are your plans?
i would love to read all about them.
i may even go get a pumpkin latte this afternoon.....heehee.

I'M ON A ROLL

i can hardly believe it, i have finished, cleaned and now blocked another project.
i love mindless knitting but i must admit i'm a poor finisher.
you know what i'm talking about
weaving in all those ends.
many times i will finish all the knitting but it can sit for weeks-months and occasionally years
before i get to the dreaded weaving in of ends !
so there, now you have it - i have confessed !

this was given as a gift to a women i work with at the hospital.
i think she will really get some good use out of this blanket.
happy tuesday !
anyone do anything fun over the long weekend ?

IT'S A PARTY-----A BABY PARTY

my best of friend in my whole life is giving her daughter a baby shower.
i can hardly believe this little girl...... i was there her first day of her life.
oh she was so sweat
and now she is going to be a mommy !
how did that happen ??
{ not the baby thing }
i mean how did this little girl grow up so fast ?
where has the time gone?
you know all these kinds of how did that happen ?

well seeing she is so special to me and my family
i had to do SPECIAL things for her new little boy that is only weeks away from his debut.

so i made a sweet water baby quilt !

machine quilting
straight simple lines

i love the simplicity of this quilt

and the colors are so soothing.
yes i think this will do nicely !

then i knitted a little sweater :)

with an alligator that wraps around

i'm even blocking this sweater.
something i rarely do
{ i generally steam my knits }

had to throw in one more quilt shot...hehe.

is this alligator not CUTE ?

i hope this alligator is named by the person it will be worn by.

and this is a the tail.
the end of this post.

SAD MISHAP

one of my favorite household appliance's broke today.
yes my clothesline.
i tend to have to replace these every two- three years, usually due to weather.
meaning i do not get the line in winter storage quick enough and  a heavy snow storm comes through and snaps it in several pieces.
this time it was all the laundry i did after we came  home from vacation.
all the quilts, bedding and afghans all on the line together.
sure wish i had gotten a picture before it all it the ground :-)

BISON WATCHING

one of our days in yellowstone we went to watch the bison.
on the way to hayden valley where the bison are having their yearly party
we saw several lone male bison.
these guys are not invited to the party :(
lets just say they do not have the advantage of modern pharmaceutical drugs,
so the young girls just turn their eyes from these older, mature bison.
and this is why their are many lone male bison all over the park.
and they are grumpy not being invited to the annual party.
feeling a little left out and used up !

it is usually these uninvited bison who gore yellowstone visitors.
visitors like these two men in the picture !
the one man was half way between the bison and where they are standing in the picture,
while the other dude was taking a picture on his ipad !
this bison was getting irritated but held his temper and ignored these two fools.
i thought for sure i was seconds away from getting a picture of a man being gored.

but not today, the ole gent put his head down and was apparently more interested in his lunch.

this guy came a little too close to the truck and i got this picture.
did not dare use my flash....

the following pictures were all taken in hayden valley at the "party".

we stayed a good 1-2 miles away from this party.

this young bull partied way too late last night and was resting on the banks of the river.

the smoke over hayden valley was fairly thick !
several fires burning in the park and some HUGE fires burning in idaho.
idaho fires were producing so much smoke one could not even see the tetons !
{ love photo shop or all pictures would have this smoke haze in them }

two bisons crossing the river

the yellowstone river runs through the hayden valley.
no fishing in this valley.
also in the valley are grizzly bears, black bears and wolves.
we did not see any of these animals.....darn.

i guess i should of cleaned the mirrors before taking this picture.

another uninvited ole fella on the road we passed slowly and quietly !

facts on bison:
they can run at 35 mph
turn at a 90 degree angle at 35 mph
and jump fences
if they live to the age of 3 years they will die from old age and they can live to 25 years old.
but no predators will attack them or even try !
who would of ever thought something this big could be so agile !
