SISTERS’ WEEKEND-WISCONSIN

Sisters’ Weekend was spent in Wyoming, Wisconsin, Iowa County. This one building town has a wee i complex with it’s name, but she makes up for her insecurity in her beauty. WOW, did we have a great time exploring several small towns, driving the really hilly countryside. All the trees, where did they come from? And the farms, so beautiful with their big red barns! We walked the roads, then climbed the hills, on the weekend we had to stay on MM's 1/4 mile drive with it’s steep hill due to hunting and all the gun fire. Ate the best hamburger in a corner bar. Do not ask it to be cooked any special way or you are showed the sign, “this is not Burger King! Your burger gets cooked how it gets cooked, no complaints or there is the door”. I guess you can say this to your customers when your burger was that good and smothered in Wisconsin cheese!
Visited 2 yarn stores where I like to buy yarn that is local. I am getting a bit of a collection of local yarn this year. The best was the Quilt Store that MM saved for last that first day, ( I went back for a second time 2 days later). Country Sampler in Spring Green, Wisc. was amazing. Truly, I have not been in a quilt store that  has amazed me in over ten years! Country Sampler is all reproduction fabrics and cross stitch samplers. The store is filled with amazing antiques and finished quilts! The thing that sent me over the top was fabric I had never seen before from companies I have never heard of. I bought yardage, a lot, like I had trouble getting everything in the suitcase. I was ready to leave my clothes in Wisconsin and travel home with fabric, yarn and  beeswax candles.
The candles were purchased at the farm where MM boards her Alpaca. That little guy is Larry, he is going to have a lot of work with the ladies when he gets older ;-)
I will have to have another post for this this trip.
It was so much fun and so much more to tell.

PIES , SISTER'S and ME

The wind is howling outside, so it seems I will not be taking my walk today out doors :(
Unless of course I use my umbrella and pretend to be Mary Poppins.
Wouldn't that be fun to fly around the town?
Walking is the only thing right now that I can do that is comfortable.
As any good OR Nurse I have lived up to the rule of not being able to escape  recovery from surgery without some awful side affect.
Mine being unbearable right leg pain.
I am now on a course of a fairly high dose of a
drug that pretty much leaves me of little use to either man or beast.
So I sit on my couch and knit and sew watching Netflix movies and series.
I can even re-watch some because I either do not remember the show or I dosed during the show.
I am getting my monies worth from Netflix this month.

The really sad part is that my sister came in for a "Sisters' Week-end".
I tried to keep my chin up [ ok both of my chins ] during the week-end .

But by Friday things were deteriorating fast, so we did a lot of watching movies and knitting.

We ate a lot and I mean a lot !

Caitlin on her new i-phone and Ellen , both looking up a recipe for French Silk pie. We never
did find a recipe we liked, so no French Silk this time around.

MM
Mary makes the worlds best pie crust so that is her job on the Sisters' Week-end.

Ellen and I pealed all the apples for a delicious apple pie.

What a wonderful looking pie and the end product was superb.

We also made a Lemon Meringue pie that was like eating in heaven.
[ I forgot to get a picture of the Lemon Meringue ].
So that is where I have been the past week.
Hope to have pictures of the knitting that I completed as well as some sewing for you all
in a few days.

Sisters Weekend

Another Sister's Week-End has come and gone. We had some extra family members join us this year, my Aunt Pat and cousin Megan. Of course Mary and Ellen were here as well. Our traditional things were done, shopping at the yarn store, My Sister,s Knit, making pies, great home cooked meals and we added Soda Bread that was my Grandma Bridget's recipe. Wonderful! Amazingly no snow just wonderful Colorado Spring weather which meant walks below the Foot Hills.
Aunt Pat's Birthday

Lots of kitchen conversation. I think most of our time was spent around the kitchen.

We would change which kitchen table we sat around from Ellen's house to my home.

Piled into the truck for a trip up to Rocky Mountain Nat. Park and saw 2 wolves. The day was cold ,cold and cold, we only drove through the park so Megan could say she was there.
Until next year.....

This is my sister Mary Margaret walking down the side of a steep muddy hill. She is holding up her pants which are really Ellen's pants who is allot taller than Mary. She went up the hill holding up her pants and she returned down the hill holding up her pants.  The top picture is MM finishing the trek. We were all so proud of our selves and yes we were sucking air.

As you can see I still have not figured out how to move pictures around my post. This is so frustrating. Ellen said she will ask her boyfriend, he is a computer wizard.Yeah!!!

Sister's Weekend

The annual 3 sister's weekend where pie making, knitting, coffee drinking and generally allot of home cooked food is made and eaten. A big change this year was the fact that Caitlin was not here to do the lion share of the cooking. That girl can cook and bake. Caitlin we did our best without you.
This year only 2 pies were made: a granny smith apple and one of the best lemon meringue I have ever made. Mary out did herself with the crust this year, light and flakey, wonderful. For some strange reason I only have a picture of the apple which I might say was delich. Oh and I forgot to mention the we did wear our aprons. Next year I hope we have our aprons with our names embroidered on them....Ellen....
Other than baking and cooking we visited the yarn store, Ellen and Mary had their hair cut, Mary a massage, Eileen went to an estate sale and bought some table clothes then off to the sustainable indoor market, long walks, good conversation over good wine and beer. The big thing we did not do this year was no eating out in restaurants. The Bean Cycle was visited twice for coffee and a pecan bars which as always was delich.
Of course the first spring snow storm decided to rear itself, it was beautiful but made for a slow laid back weekend. What is it about cold and snow that one wants to only find a quilt and lay on the couch watching a movie: the movies we watched ....Italian Job, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Patriot, and 3-10 To Yuma.
